Basenji dogs have been revered in Africa since ancient times. They lived with the African tribes, being used by their owners to hunt birds, antelopes, even lions. The Basenji is the basis of many African legends, and according to ancient local beliefs, it has the power to protect its owners from evil spirits.

After the 1920s, Basenjis became exotic pets on the Old Continent. Europeans immediately fell in love with the small dogs, which are extremely pure-bred and have a good-natured character.

FEATURES

What is unique about dogs of this breed is that the Basenji never barks. But despite this, the Basenji is not mute - it makes different sounds. Unlike many other dog breeds, they avoid water whenever they can. Among the features of the Basenji breed is the lack of fear and innate curiosity. Their fur does not emit any scent, unlike other breeds.

Basenjis adapt very easily and are suitable for living in an apartment. They are very attached to their owners, including children, and are easy to care for because of their short fur.

Dogs need to be active almost constantly, and daily walks are an absolute must.

STANDARD

The Basnji's body is light and graceful, with well-developed musculature, a deep chest and long limbs.

Wrinkles on the head are characteristic. The ears are erect, wide at the base and narrowing towards the tip. The tail is curled towards the back. The dogs radiate aristocracy and intelligence. They have a black nose and dark almond eyes.

Basenji can be in the following colors: red and white, black and white, tricolor (black, white and beige) and brindle. There must be white color on the paws, chest and tip of the tail. Male dogs are 41-43 cm tall and weigh 10-12 kg. Female dogs are 39-41 cm tall. And they weigh 9-11 kg.
